OED presents a minimum of two distinctive senses for this word. That of female genitalia is attested as early as 1699, but it's actually not considered for the feeling that means "coward". The other one, which I copy beneath, is the purported source of pussya septate hymen, any time a band of extra tissue in the hymen divides the vaginal opening in
